Serving Children & Families Across Oklahoma
Linda Charney, M.S., LPC, RPT-S
I am a mother of two sons and a grandmother to two granddaughters, ages 4 and 2. I have been married to Dr. Marc Charney for 41 years. My mother, Edna, who will be 98 in October, has lived with me since March of 2012. I have a BS degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma. I taught 2nd and 3rd grades and in 1974 taught one of the first all day Kindergartens in the state of Oklahoma. For 10 years I operated a music / preschool for children ages 2 to 5. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a certified Registered Play Therapist. I am also an approved supervisor for candidates who want to become a LPC or a RPT. Taking a page from my teacher training, I work with the whole child, their families and support systems, which includes teachers/counselors. I believe “problems are problems” not people. I work with my clients to externalize the problem, so that it can be viewed outside the person and be solved/resolved. Since the child, families and teachers spend more time in the presence of the “problem” they are the experts of the “problem” and the key to its demise. It is my intent to consult weekly with teachers and families for feedback on the progress being made toward successful and healthy life changes. I partner with families, teachers and counselors to share strategies for a positive outcome. I want to be the least intrusive as possible, allowing for the “experts” to realize their potential and power, as the child gets back on track.
